Adversarial Behavior
Financial incentives attract actors who attempt to spoof locations or emulate devices to earn tokens without contributing valid data. Mitigation: Roam’s zero-trust validation engine (see Network) employs cross-verification against cell tower triangulation, cryptographic hardware attestation, temporal redundancy checks, and progressive reputation scoring. Anomalous contributions from low-reputation nodes are automatically slashed.Regulatory Uncertainty
The regulatory classification of crypto-assets varies by jurisdiction (MiCA in Europe, SEC framework in the US, evolving regimes in Asia). Changes in law could impact the trading, utility, or classification of the $XRO token. Mitigation:- Utility-first design: $XRO is designed strictly as a utility and governance instrument, not a financial security.
- Dual-entity structure: Commercial operations are domiciled in Switzerland and Finland; token issuance through a BVI entity, isolating regulatory exposure.
- Data privacy compliance: The network collects strictly anonymized telemetry. No PII is stored on-chain or off-chain, insulating the protocol from data privacy liabilities under GDPR and similar frameworks.
Commercial Adoption Lag
Roam’s model relies on enterprise revenue arriving fast enough to sustain buyback pressure while contributor rewards emit on schedule. If enterprise sales cycles extend beyond projections, sell pressure from miners could temporarily outpace buy pressure from revenue. Mitigation:- Epoch-based emissions: Rewards are metered by a fixed schedule. If token price drops, the protocol does not mint more tokens. USD-equivalent reward value adjusts naturally.
- Pre-funded runway: The Contributor Reward Pool (40% of total supply) is designed to sustain network growth for 48 months independent of any revenue, providing a substantial buffer for enterprise adoption to mature.
Platform Risk
Reliance on mobile operating systems (Android, iOS) carries risk of background process restrictions, battery optimization limitations, or app store delistings. Mitigation:- OEM SDK: Direct integration with device manufacturers reduces reliance on consumer app stores.
- B2B embedding: The Roam SDK integrates into enterprise fleet and logistics applications that control their own device environments, bypassing consumer OS restrictions entirely.
